Physical Security Products shown to be effective in crime
prevention
During the first weeks of the year SWS security
products have successfully foiled two determined
attempted burglaries on properties in Essex.
In the first case, a college in Tilbury was targeted by
thieves who hoped to break-in and steal laptop computers
stored in a staff room. A spokesman for the college,
said, “The college is located on an open site and it
would be very difficult to secure the boundary. The
staff room has been targeted before so when we received
a mailshot from Wellington Security Products we decided
to ask them in to give us a quote. They suggested we fit
the insurance approved, and ACPO Secured by Design
accredited, Level 1 SecueroGuard 1001 Security Gate,
manufactured by SWS UK, to the inside of the staff room
window.”
He continued, “Wellington’s quote was accepted and the
gate was fitted just before Christmas – and it proved to
be a timely and wise decision. No sooner was the gate
fitted when an attempt was made to break-in. Our CCTV
recorded a sustained attack for 10-15 minutes on the
gate with a scaffold pole before they gave up and ran
off. We are so impressed by how effectively the gate
performed. It certainly did the job of preventing the
break-in and we are now considering fitting them to all
of our ground floor windows.”
Only a few days later yet another customer of Wellington
had reason to thank their decision to upgrade their
security with the installation of SWS UK SecueroShield
3800 security shutters.
A senior manager for the Essex based computer company
explained, “The company had been broken into a number of
times. Following advice from Wellington we decided to
install shutters to a number of internal parts of the
building in the hope that it would prevent access to our
offices. In January thieves ripped off the front door,
immediately triggering the alarm, but were unable to
pass the internal security shutters. The shutters appear
to have taken one hell of a beating but they held firm.
The thieves fled empty handed. Without doubt the shutter
prevented a ransacking of our building. The shutters
have more than passed our expectations.”
Philip Cooper, Marketing Manager for SWS UK, commented,
“We are very pleased by the latest examples of where the
burglar resistance of our products have been put to the
test by determined would-be thieves and passed with
flying colours. However, we are not too surprised as we
pride ourselves on being at the forefront in designing
and manufacturing products to exacting standards. In
particular, our insurance approved products have been
rigorously tested by independent bodies before being
placed on the market to ensure that they meet our
burglar resistance claims.”
Philip also stated, “SWS advocate the ‘layered’ security
approach to protecting your property and in both of
these cases a combination of physical and electronic
security has been used to maximum effect.”
Philip continued, “We are also fortunate to have
dedicated distributors, such as Wellington, who
recognise the strengths of our products and sell the
benefits to their customers.”
The distributor concerned, North Essex based Wellington
Security Products, confirmed that they had specified the
SWS range of products over the last 5 years and
commented, “SWS UK manufacture an effective, yet
aesthetically pleasing, range of products suitable for
all sectors of industry.”
