New home for world famous Cambridge Harriers thanks to Thurston Building Systems

International athletics team Cambridge Harriers, is just one of the many organisations and sports fans to benefit from a brand new state of the art pavilion, thanks to Thurston Building Systems.

Sutcliffe Park - Greenwich’s premier athletics venue - is designed for use by both novice and top class international athletes. Open since 1954 the athletics ground has enjoyed a recent makeover thanks to a new ‘Surespan’ building, comprising studio, changing facilities, shower room and male and female and disabled facilities.

“We are really pleased with the results of this new pavilion.” explains Thurston Managing Director, Jonathan Petch. “I’m a keen runner myself, and it is really important for athletes to have the right facilities so that they can get the best results from their training.”

“Greenwich Council showed real insight in providing the state of the art pavilion complex. Not only does it provide a pleasant environment for athletes and sports fans alike, the fully equipped catering facilities widen the potential of Sutcliff Park as a venue for other events to benefit the local community.”

The ‘Surespan’ building provides a cost effective alternative for buildings of up to three storeys with almost unlimited floor area. It provides attractive, high-quality accommodation at a fraction of the cost and time of traditional building methods.

Gerry Kendrick of Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL), who manages the facility on behalf of Greenwich Council, is pleased with the reaction received from customers about the new facility, she said:

“As a ‘not for profit’ ‘Leisure Trust’ we are committed to providing quality leisure and fitness facilities at affordable prices for the wider community. The provision of the new sports pavilion is helping us to achieve these objectives.”
