SA Conservation Shelter

Named after a legend in local folklore, Robin Hood Airport is the UK’s newest airport. With excellent surface access, combined with one of the longest runways in the UK; Robin Hood Airport will support a range of scheduled, low-cost, holiday (charter) flights. It is also one of the few airports in the country with the airfield infrastructure and surface access capability to handle large freighter aircraft such as the Boeing 747 and the Antonov An-124.

Better known for its range of exterior lighting, Abacus has been actively involved in the supply and installation of several passenger shelters as part of the transport infrastructure serving the airport.

Located immediately in front of the impressive Passenger Terminal building, the chosen design of the shelter, the SA Conservation Shelter, strikes immediate cohesion with the contemporary design of the terminal. Of aluminium construction and featuring full glazing ensures an open and airy design.

Abacus SA range of shelters are already a familiar road side feature throughout South Yorkshire. The SA Conservation Shelter consists of main leg supports of extruded aluminium with a grooved appearance enhancing the design of the shelter. The main roof support frame is manufactured from rectangular and circular hollow steel sections. The roof is based on a stylish low profile design. Providing an open and airy feel to the design, the shelter features full glazing panels, specified to 10mm clear toughened glass, secured by rubber faced clamps which have vandal resistant security screws. Complimenting the high quality of manufacturing, all of the main aluminium components are finished in an aesthetic and protective white polyester powder coat, whilst the steel sections are hot dip galvanised after manufacture to BS ISO 1461.

The SA range is a truly versatile shelter with a range of options to suit. Glazing options include full, half or quarter end panels to suit individual requirement. Additional accessories include integral seating, advertising and timetable panels, and lighting.
