Wieland’s Metalynx² Channels the Power through Lacon London

Structured Wiring System - Lacon London - Armoured Cabling System

Wieland Electric - Lacon London

Wieland Electric’s structured wiring system Metalynx² and gesis® plug and play system has recently been used for the connection of power and lighting throughout the refurbished Lacon London, an eight story commercial building in the heart of Holborn, London.

The building, which has undergone a complete upgrade, is owned by premier global investment company Blackstone, who purchased the property in 2014. The refurbishment has included replacement of all power and lighting throughout the property by one of the UK and Ireland’s largest and most successful broad-based technical services providers, Imtech UK. Imtech specified Wieland’s Metalynx² armoured cabling system to feed the lighting and power cabling system on all eight floors, to combine lighting and power MDB’s and feed LCMs and fan coil units.

All Wieland products were supplied as a ‘plug and play’ system, pre-wired and pre-tested, thus speeding up the installation time and allowing Imtech to meet the tight deadlines. With structured wiring now firmly established as the standard for fast-track projects, Metalynx² represents a new, smarter generation, helping to deliver even greater savings on costs and installation time. As such, it is ideal for power distribution, lighting control (including DALI and KNX) and fan coil units – and with the ability to customise Metalynx² components for special projects, it offers infinite design flexibility. Furthermore, once Metalynx² has been installed its inherent flexibility means that any changes to the system can be accommodated quickly with minimum downtime. Wieland’s popular gesis® GST18i6 6-pole connectors were also used on the CP lighting control modules to feed power and control signals to the luminaires.

Wieland Electric - Lacon LondonUsing the Wieland system has resulted in a 70% reduction in installation time, maximising productivity time on-site, with zero wastage as well as maintenance cost savings of 30%. Wieland’s team were also on hand to offer Imtech on-site management and technical support as and when required. The system is designed to meet IEC 61535:2010 & BS 8488 and every system component is factory tested in a quality-controlled environment prior to delivery. Metalynx² is fully supported by Wieland’s gesis® PLAN planning software, which uses CAD building data to generate installation drafts as well as part and price lists.
