Artemide - Red Dot Design Award 2017

Artemide, for innovative excellence and the aesthetic value of its products, once again receive the Red Dot Award, one of the most important international awards in design.

Five Artemide light projects have been awarded this year.

For the category Best of the Best have been awarded: Ameluna, developed in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz Style and Alphabet of Light, the project signed by the BIG group. The Red Dot for High Design Quality category has been won by Discovery, designed by Ernesto Gismondi, Olmo of Giulio Iacchetti and Les Danseuses by Aterlier Oi.

Red dot: Best of the Best

Ameluna is an high tech intelligence light that is expressed not only in innovation optoelectronics, but also in the ability to use a digital dialogue to connect with the surrounding environment. Artemide and Mercedes-Benz Style have joined their skills to design a project that combines beauty and intelligence through a pure and transparent form, an expression of high quality industrial and innovative vision of the project.

Artemide - Red Dot Design Award 2017Alphabet of Light, signed by the study of architecture BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group, is a modular system of luminous elements that create a new font of light. Few basic modules allow you to draw the light with words and symbols. A system that enters the space not only as a communicative sign but thanks to the expertise of Artemide optoelectronics, with great quality performance.

Red dot: High Design Quality

Discovery, designed by Ernesto Gismondi, is an expression system of a deep knowledge of light and its perceptual quality. Discovery has an essential geometry: a lightweight profile that locates a strip LED which injects light into a transparent PMMA surface of new conception. Discovery is an element that does not invade the environment, totally absent and dematerialized, acquires volume when it is switched on by the light that draws the central issuer surface.

Olmo, signed by Giulio Iacchetti, is based on the combination of simple optical and mechanical components, a system that grows in a free and unpredictable way, adapting to the spaces in the geometry, aesthetics and in the luminous performance. It consists of a linear binary module, an articulation that allows connections at any angle, even on vertical surfaces, and different light heads. The track has a structure designed to accommodate an innovative printed circuit board that supports the luminous bodies with a magnetic coupling.

Artemide - Red Dot Design Award 2017Les Danseuses, designed by Atelier Oi is a suspension lamp that is inspired by the dance, by the harmonic movement of the fabric that plays nicely with the air resistance. Les Danseuses is a project that involves poetry with air and light, emotion and surprise, energy and environmental quality: tige is mounted on a motor, which moves the fabric, and an optical body that produces a diffused light.

Ameluna, Aphabet of Light, Discovery, Olmo and Les Danseuses will be displayed in the exhibition at the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen, and will be included in the Red Dot Design Yearbook, to be presented in July 2017.
