A factory refurbishment and extension in Banbury has used Rapid Installation Systems (RIS) cable management solutions from Unitrunk to ensure a neat and durable installation within a tight, business critical programme.

An advanced manufacturer of torque control equipment, Norbar Torque Tools has refurbished an existing 5000m² warehouse and constructed 2000m² of office accommodation around the perimeter as part of an ambitious expansion strategy. The company’s vision is to create a state-of-the art manufacturing facility and the design incorporates a marketing suite with windows looking out directly onto the factory floor so that visitors can view production.

Installed by electrical contractor, CT Walters Electrical, the cable management infrastructure was designed to complement this advanced engineering vision. Unitrunk’s channel was fixed to the building’s steel frame with threaded steel rods to create a support structure, which is fully visible above the production area. A main spine of 900mm Untirunk cable ladder was then fixed to the channel to support sub mains cables with ribs of 600mm and 300mm cable ladder branching out from the central run.

Unitrunk - Inside WarehouseThe submains cabling was then installed using Unitrunk’s RIS Uniklip cable tray and power is delivered down to the factory floor via a central network that connects the overhead power and data networks to the equipment via a vertical core of multi-compartment Unitrunk trunking.

Unitrunk’s EasyConnect RIS cable basket was also used within the factory for both lighting and data cabling as well as serving as a support structure onto which the light fittings were attached.

In the office areas, EasyConnect cable basket was installed for all small power, lighting and data cabling in both the ceiling voids and raised access floors and it also provided a fast installation solution in the ceiling voids of the plant’s specialist areas, which include a calibration lab and two product development suites. Multi-compartment trunking was also used in these areas, installed along the walls in place of dado trunking.

Comments Ben Wood, managing director of CT Walters Electrical: "Working with Unitrunk gave us a one-stop shop for all the project’s varied cable management requirements, from channel and ladder right through to basket.

"It also meant that we saved time and labour costs on the scheme. On a major installation like this when the client is managing a move to a new production plant that’s a significant advantage and helped ensure that we handed over on time."
