West London Security - Energy Company Installs SiPass Integrated at London Office

Access Control System - DONG Energy - Vanderbilt Approved Installer

West London Security - DONG Energy London office

SiPass Integrated access control was required at energy firm DONG Energy’s new London office. SiPass Integrated is a high-end, proximity-based access control system. Only a select number of approved installers, of which West London Security (WLS) is one, can install it. Several of our engineers, project managers and sales staff have previously undertaken full SiPass Integrated training. This has allowed WLS to become a Vanderbilt (formerly Siemens) SiPass approved installer.

Requirements: SiPass Integrated access control installation on 22 doors
DONG Energy’s new London office required SiPass Integrated installation on 22 doors over five floors. DONG Energy uses Vanderbilt SiPass Integrated all over the world. The Danish company is currently active in Denmark, Norway, the UK, the Faroe Islands and Greenland. As with its other sites, DONG Energy required the ability to remotely control and monitor the new London based system from Denmark.

WLS is proud to be an approved, Vanderbilt SiPass Integrated installer. We have 30+ years’ experience installing access control systems in London and beyond. Working on behalf of building contractor Overbury, PIP Electrical tasked WLS with installing the new SiPass system and integrating it with DONG Energy’s head office in Denmark. The system also needed to integrate with the fire alarm system. To adhere to fire regulations, a fire gate required automation to allow it to open and close automatically at certain times of day.

As well as integrating with DONG Energy’s global network, the new access control system needed to be compatible with the existing building management system. Staff had to be able to use their key cards to access communal areas of the building as well as their own offices. The property owner’s Impro system, which WLS also installed for a previous project, controls the communal areas of the building.

Our solution: powerful & flexible access control with fire alarm integration
SiPass Integrated is a powerful and flexible access control system. It provides a high level of security without compromising on convenience for its users. It is also highly customisable, allowing DONG Energy to create multiple access levels for different staff members and for the different floors. DONG Energy produces the proximity key cards at their head office in Denmark. They are immediately valid with both the SiPass and Impro systems in the building.

The ground floor and basement report to a single controller and the other three floors to another. Both controllers can control up to 192 doors and are able to work independently of each other. This means the system has huge scope for expansion. It also means that it is effectively two systems in one. If one system fails, the other continues to operate. One system can provide back up for the other while we repair the other.

Our gate engineers also automated the fire gate and added a timer. The gate now automatically opens during business hours and closes when the offices are empty.

Results: installation completed two days early despite late start
There was a slight delay due to the fit-out works overrunning. This gave WLS less time to complete the installation. However, our engineers were still able to complete installation two days ahead of schedule. Siemens Denmark came to check the SiPass Integrated system before the final handover to DONG Energy Denmark. PIP Electrical project manager Anthony Yiangou said: "WLS were very easy to work with and extremely helpful when the project faced some challenging issues to overcome. When the earlier stages of the project overran WLS provided me with the appropriate labour to ensure the electrical and security package was completed on time."
