Wienerberger - Guild of Bricklayers National Final

Wienerberger, the leading provider of wall, roof and landscaping innovations, has hosted a demonstration as part of the 2016 Guild of Bricklayers National Final at Petroc College in Barnstaple, showcasing the benefits of building with Porotherm, its clay block walling system. The demo, which was attended by a range of local builders, contractors, college students, lecturers and local businesses, outlined how elements such as speed of build, the easy to use nature of the product and the immensely strong hold it provides can all benefit the construction process.

Porotherm has been a mainstay of construction across Europe for decades. Since its introduction into the UK in 2008 it has become well established as an excellent alternative to traditional masonry such as concrete blocks, as well as other systems such as timber or lightweight steel frames. With its lean laying process and rapid daily output, Porotherm brings cost and timesaving benefits throughout the build.

The demonstration, which was hosted by Kevin McGowan, Wienerberger’s Site Liaison Manager for Porotherm, was part of the trade fair held in association with the Guild of Bricklayers competitions, all of which have been sponsored by Wienerberger. Sparking widespread interest from those in attendance that had previously not used the product before, the demonstration has resulted in a number of enquiries from those keen to learn more about the benefits of the Porotherm.

Speaking about the event, Kevin commented:
"We have a very strong relationship with the Guild of Bricklayers, and have been involved in sponsoring all competitions at a regional level, as well as the final. We’ve provided bricks for each competition, as here at Wienerberger, supporting the next generation of skilled tradespeople is a core aim for us. It was great to be able to hold a demonstration on Porotherm and outline to local builders and students the benefits that building with the product can bring."
