RugstoreNE - William Morris Rug

We have seen a dramatic revival over the past year of designs from the British Arts and Crafts movement that flourished between 1880 and 1910, in particular the beautiful creations of William Morris and Co. Made from 100% pure wool, an inspirational collection of hand crafted rugs translate some of Morris and Co's most renowned and iconic designs.

Using original designs and adhering to the values of traditional craftsmanship and romantic, folkloric scrolling forms, Morris and Co have joined forces with one of Europe's leading rug manufacturers to create a rug collection that looks as fresh and inspiring today as it did when first launched over a hundred years ago. The collection consists of five iconic William Morris designs, four of which are hand tufted using high quality New Zealand wool, the fifth is machine woven using state of the art printing methods on a high quality wool pile.

Artichoke was first designed by William Morris in 1876 as a ceramic tile design and reworked by John Henry Dearle for Morris and Co in 1899 as a wallpaper and fabric design. Featuring an oversized scrolling leaf design in three beautiful soft colour ways that are sympathetic to the design and are sure to add a classical feel to any interior, the flowing stems are highlighted with ultra fine art silk which adds to the look of refinement. Available in three standard size options with prices starting at £445.00 for a 200cm x 140cm.

Originally designed by Morris in 1877 and reproduced in 1885 in a new 'leather' look wallpaper, Chrysanthemum features a bold floral outline in soft pastel shades of China Blue, Sisal - Canvas and a rich Wine - Linen. Hand tufted using a soft New Zealand Wool with a dense 15 mm thick pile and available in three standard size options, 200cm x 140cm up to 280 cm x 200 cm with prices from £409.00 to £825.00.

Thistle uses a tonal palette with dramatic effect to create three stunning designs that will be the centre piece of any floor. Hand tufted in pure New Zealand Wool and in stark contrast to the famous Acanthus design that uses more contrasting tones to offer a more classical feel. Both designs are available in three size options, starting at £409.00 for a 200 x 140.

Golden Lily is woven using the latest technology to recreate John Henry Dearle's masterpiece, originally designed in 1899. The rugs are machine woven exclusively by High End Dutch manufacturer Brink and Campman, using high quality un dyed New Zealand wool with a short 10 mm cut pile, the designs are then screen printed using a unique screen printing technique. Although extremely difficult to perfect on wool, the process enables an infinite colour combination and the results speak for themselves. Available in two standard size options starting at £899.00 for a 230cm x 170cm.

Recognised as one of the most significant cultural figures of Victorian Britain, William Morris has influenced generations of designers, poets and social reformists. His designs stand the test of time and his values of quality craftsmanship are evident in this latest rug collection. The designs lend themselves to almost any interior style.
