Uponor - Network of pre-insulated pipes

Uponor, the plumbing, heating, cooling and infrastructure specialist, will be showcasing its range of pre-insulated Ecoflex pipes and its Wehotherm range of steel pipes at this year’s ecobuild at stand G184 in the District Heating Pavillion.

District heating solutions are amongst the industry leading environmentally-focused ranges offered by Uponor in a broad portfolio that also includes MLC and PEX pipe, radiant heating and cooling, TABS (thermally active building systems) and HIUs (Heat Interface Units). The company has been providing district heating infrastructure solutions for heating, cooling and domestic hot water delivery for more than 20 years, offering proven, reliable, innovative, flexible and cost efficient pipework for transport of a variety of liquids both inside buildings and under public realm landscaping.

Visitors to stand G184 will be able to see a project overview highlighting the way in which Uponor’s steel and pre-insulated non-steel pipes can be used in combination to deliver a complete district heating solution. A number of case studies will be available to showcase the solutions in action in the UK and across Europe, demonstrating their performance across a varied range of ground and temperature conditions. Delegates will also be able to examine product samples, including examples of Ecoflex pre-insulated flexible pipe connected directly to Wehotherm steel pipe using Uponor’s innovative Q&E (Quick & Easy) fittings, highlighting the speed and ease of installation of Uponor district heating systems in any configuration, alongside the products’ performance, durability and extended service life.

Uponor’s Ecoflex and Ecoflex Thermo PRO pre-insulated pipes for heating and cooling networks can be used for various applications, including secondary district heating networks, residential house connections, bio energy, bio gas plants and district cooling networks. Thanks to Uponor’s Q&E fittings, the network installation can be handled quickly and efficiently even in the most difficult conditions on site. Uponor can also provide solutions for any environment, with Ecoflex Thermo PRO engineered using flexible PEX foam bonded to the external pipe jacket, providing ‘best in class’ flexibility whilst offering market-leading levels of thermal performance.

Meanwhile, for the wider diameters needed for the district heating system’s central spine, Uponor’s Wehotherm range of steel pipework combines polyurethane rigid foam pre-insulation and a rigid connection structure, providing the system with good insulation properties, mechanical strength and an extended service life.

Explains Uponor’s head of product marketing, Sam Barker: "Our approach to all heating, cooling, plumbing and infrastructure installations is to offer a complete, technically advanced solution that is simple to install, easy to maintain and offers an extended service life.

"For district heating projects, the combination of Wehotherm and Ecoflex pipes and Q&E fittings delivers this philosophy, enabling specifiers to select the right level of diameter, insulation and flexibility for every point on the network for a high performance and cost-effective district heating system with excellent operational and environmental benefits.

"We’re looking forward to demonstrating those capabilities, backed by Uponor’s expertise and technical support, at this year’s ecobuild."
