COMPCO Fire Systems - WorldSkills UK

Last month our very own James Murray, a Trainee Design Engineer, based at the Hamilton Office, was invited to take part in WorldSkills UK. Worldskills is a competition where candidates compete against young people from over 50 countries, where the UK entrants begin by taking part in the regional and national heats of WorldSkills UK, which are held throughout 2014 and 2015.

The competitions are designed by leading industry experts and training providers which is aimed at high potential trainees and apprentices. James' specialist subject was competing in the Advanced Mechanical Engineering CAD.

On the first day of competition James had to design a lawnmower engine, and then design a front loader and a Stirling engine on the following days. The contestants had 6 hours a day to finish each task, which included making and assembling the parts and producing an animation of how the project works.

Unfortunately James did not qualify for the last phase of Worldskills in Abu Dhabi 2016 but has welcomed the experience on this platform and would encourage Compco and individuals to offer up their skills on the world stage.

Everyone here at Compco would like to congratulate James on his success and determination in this competition. We would also like to encourage any of our new apprentices and trainees to explore these ways of furthering their skills for the future!
