Wienerberger - Heath Lodge

Wienerberger’s Marziale brick has been selected for the recent Heath Lodge housing project in Ealing. A residential scheme, which was initially deemed too difficult for development, the architect team took advantage of Wienerberger’s innovative product range to help overcome planning challenges at the site. The result? An iconic new development that has been recognised for four awards, including Housing Development of the Year.

Designed by architects Autor Architecture, the team appealed the planning restriction and won the case due to a smart design and the usage of innovative materials. The project is a great example of how traditional brick can be used in combination with modern methods of construction.

The Marziale brick was used in three different styles to seamlessly work together with a prefabricated timber system. Designed on a multiple of 7-degrees, inward stepping brick slips and traditional brick were used with a 9mm exposure to compile smoothly onto the unique structure. In addition to the functionality, the Marziale brick gives a warm character and tectonic quality to the building.

Heath Lodge also complies with Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes; with the improved insulation values and renewable sources, the building provides around 20% of the energy used on site.
