Piller Technology Chosen to Protect LFoundry Semiconductor Plant in Avezzano, Italy

Leading Italian semiconductor plant LFoundry has chosen Piller Power Systems to power protect its manufacturing site in Avezzano, Central Italy.

Headquartered in Avezzano, Italy, LFoundry – a SMIC company – is a manufacturer of microelectronic silicon semiconductor products. SMIC (Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation) is a major global semiconductor producer based in Shanghai, China.

The high sensitivity of semiconductor industry production processes makes highly specific demands on its power supply and requires a versatile, state-of-the-art UPS.

The Piller solution for LFoundry consists of three high-efficiency UNIBLOCK™ UBT+ units with 2250 kW in parallel mode, incorporating a 21MJ POWERBRIDGE™ kinetic energy storage, with rotary stabilisers utilising robust synchronous generators to ensure high quality power, independent of the mains supply.

Commenting on his company’s investment in Piller technology, Mr. Claudio Piccolini, Operations and Maintenance Manager at LFoundry, said:

Moreover, the presence of the Piller system allows us to operate the power plant without a hot backup engine, reducing the cost of electricity and general operating costs."
