ARDEX Supporting the BBC’s DIY SOS Big Build in Telford

BBC DIY SOS - Rapid Drying Cement - Tile Adhesive

ARDEX BBC DIY SOS

ARDEX are proud to play a part of the latest BBC DIY SOS Project in Telford.

Both ARDEX A 38 Ultra Rapid Drying Cement for Internal & External Screeds and ARDEX X 77 MICROTEC Flexible Wall and Floor Tile Adhesive was used as part of a life changing transformation to the Cooper residence which could allow their 12 year old son to finally come home after over a year and a half of intensive care.

Matthew had been cared for at Birmingham Children's Hospital since August 2015, after he was diagnosed with brain and spinal cancer as well as suffering a stroke. But in order to come home, the family house had to be adapted for his needs. This included an extension to the ground floor to include some physio space, a wet room and social care space and to give him the ability to access the entire ground floor.

With only 9 days to complete the entire project, time had to be saved wherever possible. So the use of a standard screed for the 50m² floor with the risk of waiting weeks for it to dry was simply not an option. ARDEX A 38 Ultra Rapid Drying Cement for Screeds gave the site team the ability to not only build a floor, but also install the final floor finish within hours, not days. The precision engineered screed sets, hardens and dries in approximately 4 hours and is perfect for use in wet rooms.

ARDEX X 77 provided the team with one of the world's most advanced tiling adhesives providing outstanding bond strength and sag resistance thanks to its MICROTEC formula. The fibre reinforced flexible adhesive also offered a 60 minute working time which is double that of E classified adhesives, which means tile fitters can spend less time mixing and more time fixing, something that was essential with this DIY SOS projects timeline.
