One British engineering company is experiencing such growth it has had to increase warehousing capacity by almost 10%.

Family-owned and run Gilberts Blackpool - the UK’s leading independent air movement specialist - is experiencing a significant increase in demand for its advanced grilles, louvres and diffusers, and natural ventilation solutions, both in its home, UK market and overseas.

The growth is due partly to the health of the British building and construction sector. It also reflects Gilberts’ own development: the company has invested in the development of a state-of-the-art R&D and testing facility, implemented a new sales strategy with enlarged technical sales team, and invested in advanced new processing technology, including a new laser fabrication centre. The factors are combining to bring to market standard and bespoke products that deliver quality, value and performance, reinforced with personal technical and sales support.

"We design, engineer and test entirely in-house," explains Gilberts’ Managing Director Jonathan Haslam, whose father Gil founded the company 57 years ago. "Our significant and sustained growth means we now need more capacity. The extension will deliver an additional 8500ft² (790m²) of manufacturing and warehousing at our headquarters."

Its Blackpool head office currently includes an 85000ft² (7900m²) manufacturing facility, and a state-of-the-art air distribution test laboratory. Gilberts is unique in manufacturing every component in house- to the extent of designing and engineering its own tools and dies.

Its 1400 ft² (130m²) test centre is also unique among in-house facilities at UK air movement manufacturers; the centre enables thorough, accurate testing of air distribution grilles, diffusers and natural ventilation terminals to establish their full aerodynamic performance including throw, temperature, pressure and acoustic data.
