Vertiv Scoops Double Award Win for Data Centre Solutions Cooling Product of the Year & Electrical Review’s Power Excellence Award

Vertiv is honoured to win two highly acclaimed industry awards. Thanks to the sole support of public voting, Vertiv picked up Data Centre Cooling Product of the Year at the Data Centre Solutions (DCS) Awards for the fourth consecutive year running.

The winning Liebert® PCW chilled water room cooling unit utilising new generation EC fan technology to dramatically reduce noise levels and increase unit efficiency. The product is also recognised for its flexibility to suit a wide variety of configurations and capacities, ranging from 200 kW to 6 MW, serving both data centres and server room applications. The award win comes just days after the inauguration of a new, high-tech Adiabatic Freecooling Chiller Innovation Lab within Vertiv’s Customer Experience Centre for Thermal Management, based in Padova, Italy.

The DCS awards are designed to reward the product designers, manufacturers, suppliers and providers operating in the data centre arena. Jason Holloway, director of IT Publishing at Angel Business Communications, organisers of DCS Awards said: “This year's Finalists represent the very best in the industry and Vertiv were voted as outstanding by our readership to win the Data Centre Cooling Product of the Year category.”

“The Liebert PCW is the highest performing floor mount chilled water unit in its class, saving our customers up to 65% in energy consumption. Winning this product award is a great accolade to our dedicated, best of breed engineering specialists,” states Kevin Brady, vice president of thermal management for Vertiv in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

On the same night as the DCS Awards, Electrical Review, the longest established UK electrical journal, celebrated the inaugural Excellence Awards at The Dorchester, London. Vertiv together with customer Noriker Power, who provide balancing services to the UK National Grid, took home the Electrical Review Excellence Award for Power. Noriker Power in close collaboration with Vertiv’s technical and project management teams designed, built, commissioned and connected the UK’s first battery storage facility to the National Grid in April 2017. The facility, located in the West Midlands, provides 20MW of Fast Frequency Response Dynamic power to grid at 33 kV 50 Hz. The site-wide control system was designed in partnership with Vertiv’s technical team, comprising of lithium-ion and VRLA batteries connected to a series of Liebert® 80-eXL GS inverter systems housed in enclosures which are monitored by Vertiv™ LIFE™ Services, a remote diagnostics system that is manned 24/7/365 by Vertiv service experts. The judges recognised the complexity in design and criticality of this project and awarded Vertiv and Noriker for their collaboration efforts bringing together engineering expertise in a unique and revolutionary battery storage application.

Vertiv Scoops Double Award Win for Data Centre Solutions Cooling Product of the Year & Electrical Review’s Power Excellence Award Elinore Mackay, editor of Electrical Review, said: “The Electrical Review magazine has been highlighting such achievements, best practice, innovations and technical developments for over 140 years, and will continue to do so on its pages, online and through industry events.” On the night Dr Marc Thomas, director of Noriker Power joined Vertiv to collect the accolade and said: “The project has been a huge success and Vertiv has been instrumental in its delivery and we look to partner with Vertiv again to support our future expansion plans.”

Emiliano Cevenini, vice president, commercial & industrial vertical for Vertiv in Europe, Middle East and Africa comments, “The market is seeing significant future growth in electrical storage in the UK but also across Europe, from flexibility services and renewable energy producers adding batteries to solar and wind projects to earn an additional revenue stream from capacity markets. This award is an honourable achievement to our dedicated technical support teams, project managers, and service engineers that relied on excellent team-working to support Noriker Power on this innovative project.”
