Investment in the future is being taken to a higher degree by Gilberts Blackpool.

The UK’s leading independent developer of air movement solutions has staged a ‘lunch and learn’ professional training session for students at University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) studying mechanical engineering and building services.

The session focussed on the selection processes in specifying grilles and diffusers for projects, including practical demonstrations in Gilberts’ in-house test facility with smoke tests to show diverse airflow patterns depending on grille and diffuser configuration. It culminated with a presentation on the latest development in air movement technology- hybrid ventilation units, where Gilberts has been at the forefront of development.

“Choosing the right product, size and configuration within a room and building, has a significant impact on the comfort and performance of occupants and energy consumption,” explained Gilberts’ Technical Director Roy Jones. “It’s a complex subject, but one we, as the industry leader with in-house R&D capability, is best positioned to help students learn.”

Added Dr Liben Jiang and Dr Andrew Fsadni, senior lecturers at UCLan’s School of Engineering, “We work closely with Gilberts on our relevant degree courses, as the team there has vast knowledge, and ability to impart that knowledge in a meaningful and impactful way. All students who have participated have loved it, and learnt much from the session.”

The ‘lunch and learn’ sessions for students are part of a raft of CPD level training programmes offered by Gilberts, for students and qualified professionals. The sessions can be delivered either at Gilberts’ state of the art facilities in Blackpool, or at recipient organisation’s premises. The company’s technical team has some 75 years’ combined knowledge, and sits on various technical committees for BSi, CIBSE and HEVAC.
