Formica Infiniti™ Wins Gold at the German Design Award 2018: Excellent Product Design

German Design Award - High Pressure Laminate - Formica Infiniti

Formica Infiniti

Formica Group, the original inventor of High Pressure Laminate, has been announced as a Gold winner at the German Design Award 2018 for Formica Infiniti™. The multi-award winning product was nominated for the Excellent Product Design, Materials and Surfaces category and judged by an international jury of 45 design experts from various disciplines.

The anti-fingerprint and anti-marking surface with post-forming properties marks the next generation of laminate and was recognised at the highly-respected Awards as a ground breaking, innovative product in the German and international design landscape.

The awards are structured in four tiers: Gold; Winner; Special Mention and Nominee. The high-calibre jury evaluated more than 5,000 entries against 19 criterion, and Formica Infiniti™ was one of just 45 entries awarded Gold, the prestigious top accolade.

Eva Hoernisch, Group Creative Product Director, comments: "Formica Group is proud to be on the forefront of innovation and developing the next generation of laminate which acknowledges that experiencing good design involves all of the senses including texture and touch. We’re honoured that the German Design Award 2018 has recognised Formica Infiniti as a winning design on an international stage."

Formica InfinitiFingerprints and marks show up easily on standard surfaces like traditional matte finishes, which detracts from the design and requires cleaning to remove. So Formica Group developed a solution to put an end to unsightly marks, with the creation of Formica Infiniti™. To give the material its state of the art properties, Formica Group used patent pending technology in combination with a next generation resin and curing process. The result is a surface with micro-contours that allows for the scattering and absorption of light waves within the surface topography creating a contemporary matte look.

The official award ceremony will take place at the international consumer goods fair Ambiente in Frankfurt am Main on February 9, 2018, with all winners of the Excellent Product Design category showcased as part of the Ambiente exhibition.
