Gilberts (Blackpool) - British Engineering takes the Floor in Hong Kong

Air Movement - Aluminium Floor Grille Cassettes - Natural Ventilation

British engineering is taking the floor in Hong Kong (the special administrative region of China) with the execution of a significant export order for ventilation components.

Gilberts Blackpool - the UK’s leading independent air movement specialist, has shipped over 1000 of its aluminium floor grille cassettes, each 600mmm x 600mm, to the Oriental state, for use in a premium quality data centre.

"It’s a bit like sending coal to Newcastle, exporting manufactured aluminium products to the world’s biggest producer of the metal," says Gilberts’ Sales Director Ian Rogers. "The Chinese appreciate quality and particularly value British engineering and manufacturing - look at the growth in sales of Rolls Royce cars there!

"Our clients tell us that it was our reputation for quality, coupled with our ability to engineer a bespoke solution, which won the order. Our in-house design & manufacturing capability has been a major advantage in the process, as once the grilles arrived, they decided they wanted a different damper design. We were able to quickly develop a solution and ship it out to be easily fixed to the grilles."

Manufactured from extruded aluminium, Gilberts’ floor grilles are available in a choice of medium or extra heavy grade, depending on static loading. Designed to replace floor tiles, each grille is specifically engineered with the internal bars set on a straight, close (13mm) pitch, to prevent heel penetration and snagging. They can be easily removed as required to provide access for cabling and utility services RMI below.

Units are provided as standard in mill finish, but can be supplied with a brush (bright grain effect) finish, shadowline (matt black internals with a bright grain fascia) or nylon colour coating.

The floor grilles are just part of Gilberts’ range of grilles, louvres and diffusers to efficiently distribute air around buildings, without draughts. Founded 55 years ago, Gilberts has become Britain’s leading independent air movement specialist. Unusually, it develops all its products in-house, from design through tooling to production in its 85,000 sq ft Blackpool manufacturing facility. It is unique in its sector in having, in-house, advanced test facilities complimented by full software modelling to provide unrivalled validation of grilles, louvres and diffusers in situ.
