Aquilar Provides Leak Detection for Queensferry Crossing

Aquilar is proud to be the Leak Detection provider for the Queensferry Crossing. The new 2,700m long bridge was officially opened today by the Queen, in a ceremony including an address by Nicola Sturgeon. The bridge has taken six years to complete and cost £1.35bn.

Aquilar first quoted for the project back in 2010, with the client brief specifying that the leak detection cable be laid along the entire length of the water supply pipe within the bridge deck cell. In total, Aquilar supplied 3.5km of TT1100 sensing cable; chosen for its ability to detect the presence of water at any point along its length.

To monitor the cable, Aquilar provided five TTSIM-1 Sensor interface Modules and a TTDM-128 Digital Master Panel. Due to the scale of the project, this panel was selected for its ability to monitor up to 1500 metres of sensing cable and unto 100 sensing zones simultaneously. Should a leak be detected, the TTDM-128 (in this case located in the plant room) will alert staff with both visual and audible alarms, and pinpoint the location of the leak with 1 metre accuracy.

Aquilar’s partner, Smith Electrical, competed the installation of the leak detection system late last year.
