Euroclad - Looking to Fife’s Future

Waid Academy - Standing Seam Roof - Aluminium Cladding Systems

Euroclad - Waid Academy

Euroclad’s vast product range and national reach has helped to complete a new multi-million-pound learning and community facility in Scotland. Led by BAM Construction, work to replace the ageing 130-year-old Anstruther school with the new Waid Academy and community hub in Anstruther, Fife, started in August 2015 and recently came to a close in May 2017. The £24 million project is part of a larger scheme by Fife Council to establish six secondary schools and two primaries as part of their ‘Building Fife’s Future Programme’. As a multi-purpose building, this project required a number of Euroclad’s products to provide optimum performance and practicality.

BBA certified Euroseam roofing was used to create a standing seam roof on the main building. Acoustic performance was key for this project so a trapezoidal perforated deck was used to reduce noise, which was especially important over the auditorium section of the building. Problems associated with transportation of long length roof sheets were avoided as sheets were rolled on site.

A total of 952m² of ElitePlus 5 with a 0.17 U-Value and 2436m² of ElitePlus 5A1 with a 0.20 U-Value were used on the main building, the latter providing the enhanced acoustic performance. 437m² of ElitePlus 1 was supplied, featuring red 32/1000 profiled outer sheets, for the roof of a small annex adjacent to the main building and all Elite systems were supplied with a 25-year system guarantee. The flexibility in design specification and installation of Elite systems means that they can be adapted to suit a variety of performances.

Vieo was used over 2054m² of the building with an aluminium-finished profile in dark grey, providing an attractive and cost-effective wall finish.

Stuart Tulloch from Procladd Scotland Ltd., the specialist installers who worked on the project, said: "Having worked with Euroclad before we know that they offer a wide range of products. They were able to offer us a selection of different options for this project to suit the different functions of the building and most importantly, the client was happy with the results."

Funded by Fife Council and the Scottish Government, Waid Academy is also a community hub comprising an 800-pupil school, local services and a base for police officers, bringing a range of public services together under one roof.

Euroclad - Waid Academy The school, which occupies the upper two floors of the building, offers a central ‘social learning hub’ atrium and a ‘performance stair’ amongst other innovative learning facilities, while students can also enjoy an all-weather rugby pitch laid to Scottish Rugby Union standards, a hockey pitch and a habitat walk in the grounds of the new campus.

On the ground floor of the building there are a range of facilities available to the entire community including a large multi-purpose hall with stage and tiered seating, gym, fitness suite, conference and meeting rooms, a café, a public library and a local council office. Three new enterprise units will also be available for school activities and for leasing to small start-up businesses.

Euroclad’s diverse range of steel and aluminium cladding systems are available in a range of colours and options, providing great value products on time and within budget. Founded in 1981, Euroclad has maintained its cutting-edge approach to high performance, cost-effective solutions to remain at the forefront of the industry for over 36 years.
