Unitrunk Provides Fast Track Solution for School Extension

Cable Management - Uniklip Cable Tray - Impington Junior School

Unitrunk - Rapid Installation Systems

Cable management specialist, Unitrunk, have supplied the company’s RIS (Rapid Installation Systems) C and EasyConnect cable basket as part of a fast track school extension programme at Histon and Impington Junior School in Cambridge.

Part of the Cambridge Primary Education Trust (CPET) multi-academy trust (MAT), Histon and Impington Junior school currently offers provision for Key Stage 2 and four classes of Year 2 children. The new standalone two storey building on the existing campus will enable provision to be extended to cater for all Key Stage One and Foundation Stage, enabling up to 630 places to be offered for children aged 4-11 on a single site.

The new two-storey classroom block will also contain a double-height hall with a CLT (cross-laminated timber) construction to aid speed of project delivery. Specification of the Unitrunk RIS cable management systems has also been driven by the business critical requirement for faster installation. Uniklip and EasyConnect products were specifically selected by the electrical contractor after they witnessed reduction in installation times by as much as 50% by using the Unitrunk systems on a previous project in Cambridge.

The electrical installation involved a new incoming supply to serve both the existing and new building on campus and the new building will be constructed with a dedicated plant room and switch room, with lighting and power connected to dedicated distribution boards to enable individual metering and monitoring.

Uniklip cable tray has been used to take the submains supply from the switch room and provide the main distribution spine. However, the majority of the installation will be the EasyConnect cable basket system which will be used in various sizes to provide containment for power, lighting, data networks, fire alarm and intruder alarm systems. The cable management infrastructure will also serve the hearing loop cabling in the hall, the disabled refuge and the assistance call button in the disabled toilet as part of a full Equality Act compliant specification. The installation will be futureproofed with redundant cable management capacity to allow installation of interactive white boards and A/V equipment.
